Annotation. This article presents the results of long-term studies of the microelement composition of various species of cultivated and wild plants and their products, previously published by the author in the journal "The North Caucasus Ecological Herald". Based on these studies, the author proposes the concept of a new science of the XXI century – Agrobiogeochemistry – that emerged at the intersection of Agrochemistry and Biogeochemistry. It is based on the biogeochemical principle of determining the maximum possible number of microelements (more than 40) in biological objects with high analytical sensitivity. This allows for obtaining optimal information on the quality of natural and cultivated plants and their fruits, vegetables, and root crops as food and food products of plant origin.

Annotation. This article presents a review of publications on the origin of the cultivated apple tree Malus domestica Borkh. and its genetic relationships with wild Malus species: M. sieversii, M. orientalis, M. sylvestris, and M. baccata. The results of studies of the morphological features, geographic distribution, and hybridization of these species are analyzed. The analysis showed that the Sievers apple tree (M. sieversii), being the main ancestor of the domestic apple tree, was subjected to the greatest influence from the wild forest apple tree (M. sylvestris), the impact of the genes of the oriental apple tree (M. orientalis) was lesser, and the contribution of the genes of the berry apple tree (M. baccata) was minimal due to geographic isolation. A historical and evolutionary analysis is conducted, the participation of megafauna in the formation of large-sized fruits is noted, and the historical contribution of local peoples to the processes of domestication of apple species is analyzed. The high vulnerability of wild apple populations due to intensive economic activity and uncontrolled gene flow from Malus domestica is substantiated. The need for in-situ and ex-situ conservation of wild apple species is highlighted, and measures taken to protect biodiversity are discussed. The study utilized a bibliographic analysis of domestic and international publications. The results obtained will provide a better understanding of the evolutionary history of the domestic apple and the need to preserve the unique genetic resources of its wild ancestors.

Annotation. This article presents an assessment of motor vehicles as a major source of urban pollution (using the Luchegorsk urban settlement in the Pozharsky District of Primorsky Krai as a case study). A functional zoning of the studied urban ecosystem was conducted. In each functional zone, test sites were established near roads with varying levels of congestion. As a result, the vehicle traffic intensity in the urban settlement was assessed and the level of atmospheric pollution from vehicle exhaust gases (based on CO concentrations) was calculated. A direct correlation was found between traffic intensity, vehicle flow composition, and the level of carbon monoxide pollution. The site located near the Vladivostok-Khabarovsk federal highway was identified as the busiest, with an average traffic intensity of 450 vehicles per hour and an estimated atmospheric CO concentration of 14.22 mg/m³, which exceeded the MAC by almost three times. Furthermore, exceedances of the maximum permissible concentration were also recorded at sites with low vehicle traffic volumes, but with the presence of trucks and located near important social facilities (sites No. 2, 3, and 5). At sites with very light traffic (predominantly passenger cars) and located far from major infrastructure, no excess CO concentrations were detected.

Annotation. Scientific research and agronomic practice demonstrate the high effectiveness of shelterbelts in minimizing climate risks and maintaining soil fertility in agriculture. The aim of this study was to comprehensively assess the current state of shelterbelts in the eastern Dinsky District of Krasnodar Territory, a region where their establishment peaked in the 1960s and 1970s. In 2025, an inventory of six shelterbelts (4.52 hectares) was conducted using the assessment method of sum of biomorphological features. The type of structure (windproof, openwork), species composition, biometric indicators, and sanitary condition categories of the stands were determined. The calculated values of the weighted average condition category (WAC) for all surveyed belts varied from 2.7 to 3.4, exceeding the threshold of 2.51 and officially classifying the stands as weakened. The most problematic are windproof shelterbelts dominated by common ash and false acacia. English oak, honey locust, and Eurasian smoke tree have been identified as resilient species prioritized for restoration. Based on the research results, practical recommendations have been developed, including urgent sanitary and restoration felling in the most degraded strips, replacing weakened species with resilient ones, and optimizing the spatial structure of the stands to restore their windbreak and soil-protecting functions.

Annotation: This article examines the role of small hydropower plants (SHPs) in ensuring the environmentally sustainable development of rural and mountainous areas lacking a reliable centralized power supply. It is argued that the key advantage of SHPs is their ability to generate electricity with a minimal carbon footprint, without disrupting the natural hydrological regime of rivers and preserving the integrity of natural landscapes. Unlike large hydropower plants, small hydropower eliminates large-scale flooding of land, does not impede fish migration, and does not degrade floodplain ecosystems. A comparative analysis of the environmental impacts of various generation types is conducted, confirming the environmental advantages of SHPs over traditional fossil fuel energy. Special attention is given to the potential for integrating SHPs into hybrid systems with other renewable sources, thereby completely eliminating the use of diesel fuel and associated greenhouse gas emissions. The example of the Fasnalskaya SHP (Republic of North Ossetia–Alania) demonstrates the practical implementation of environmentally responsible energy supply principles in mountainous areas. It is concluded that the development of small hydropower acts as a catalyst for the comprehensive transformation of rural areas, harmoniously combining economic growth with the preservation of ecological balance and the biodiversity of water bodies.
